GEO Agency for Law Firms
Search has changed: more and more people ask AI directly instead of Google. At SEO Alive we optimize your brand so it appears and gets cited in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and AI Overviews when your customers look for solutions like yours.
Before a client calls a firm, they ask an AI what their case involves and what a lawyer will cost. That first answer is built from bar associations, legal publishers and directories, and it decides who gets the call.

What AI answers when clients look for a lawyer
The questions people put to ChatGPT about lawyers in the US are specific and high-stakes: when to hire a personal injury lawyer, how much a lawyer can get you after a car accident, what a DUI lawyer costs. Four of the eight most-asked buying questions are about car accidents and personal injury, each at an estimated 43,000 to 44,000 searches a month.
The sources behind those answers are rarely law firms. Across ChatGPT answers about lawyers, the most cited domains are legalclarity.org (494 answers), the American Bar Association (305), Nolo (211) and FindLaw (210), with directories such as Super Lawyers (122) and Best Lawyers (79) close behind. In the UK the picture is even more institutional: gov.uk (323), the Law Society (195) and the Solicitors Regulation Authority (108). Google’s AI Overviews lean on Reddit (321) and YouTube (302).
For a firm, that shapes the work: publish clear fee and process information for each practice area, keep directory and bar profiles complete and consistent, and create pages that answer the exact questions clients ask, so a model has something of yours to cite. With our AI Tracker we measure which questions in your practice areas ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and AI Overviews answer, and which sources each one uses.

Erik AllebestCEO Chess.comFrequently asked questions about GEO for Law Firms
+Why does ChatGPT cite legal publishers instead of law firms?
Because most client questions are general before they are local: when to hire a lawyer, what it costs, what happens next. For those, the model prefers sources that look neutral and comprehensive, such as legalclarity.org, the American Bar Association, Nolo or FindLaw. A firm gets into that answer when it publishes what those sources do not have: concrete fee ranges and a clear account of the process in its own practice area and jurisdiction.
+Do legal directories like Super Lawyers or Avvo still matter?
Yes. Super Lawyers is cited in 122 ChatGPT answers about lawyers and 78 AI Overviews, and ChatGPT’s answer to “What is the best lawyer for a car accident?” cites Avvo. A complete, consistent profile helps the model recognize your firm as the same entity across sources. It does not replace your own content: the directory names you, but explanations are cited from whoever publishes them.
+Is it different for law firms in the UK?
Yes. In the UK, ChatGPT relies far more on official sources: gov.uk appears in 323 answers about lawyers, the Law Society in 195 and the Solicitors Regulation Authority in 108, with cost comparison sites such as solicitorcost.com further down. A UK firm should make its regulatory details easy to verify and keep its pages consistent with what those bodies publish.
